182. マルドゥクの巫女
またしてもキング版が怪しいので、ハーパー版を併せ訳す。
ただ、いずれにせよマルドゥク神に仕える女官は、特別待遇を受けたようだ。
182. 父親が娘を（181のように）都市バビロンに坐す神マルドゥクの妻として捧げ、遺贈も証書もやらぬに於て。而して父親亡くなり次第、彼女は兄弟から、父の家の子にあるべき取り分×1/3相当を受け取るべし、但しその遺産は、意中の者に遺すをマルドゥク許し給へり。
If a father devote his daughter as a wife of Mardi of Babylon (as in 181), and give her no present, nor a deed; if then her father die, then shall she receive one-third of her portion as a child of her father's house from her brothers, but Marduk may leave her estate to whomsoever she wishes.
182. 人が、都市バビロンに坐す神マルドゥクの巫女たる娘に、持参金与へず、贈与証書も認めざるに於ては。その父親亡くなりしかば、娘は兄弟との分け前として、父親の家の遺産につき息子の1/3を受け取るべし、但し事業経営に関はるべからず。マルドゥクの巫女、意中の者に、その遺産を継がせて差し支へなし。
If a man do not give a dowry to his daughter, a priestess of Marduk of Babylon, and do not write for her a deed of gift; after her father dies she shall receive as her share with her brothers one-third the portion of a son in the goods of her father's house, but she shall not conduct the business thereof. a wife of Mardi of Babylon:ハーパー版と見比べても、此処だけ"Mardi"とする理由がないので、キング版原稿の誤記と思われる。英訳者は修道女のように考えて『神の妻』としたのであろう。しかし、この存在はどうやら、神殿の中でも支配的地位にあったものらしい。
